‘Good jobs’, training and skilled immigration

Has skilled immigration into the UK led to a reduction in training of native-born workers? To address this concern, paper describes theoretical model where can affect workers both positively and negatively, its effects may differ according characteristics migrant firm's sector. It then investigates issue empirically using Labour Force Survey data from 1995 2018. At aggregate level, there is small positive association between native rates. However, more disaggregated analysis finds that relationship depends on skill level immigrant, trainees, sector which occurs. In particular, traded goods sectors show UK-born unskilled immigration. non-traded high-wage sectors, negative. These findings highlight importance allowing for heterogeneous when formulating policy or modelling immigration's across wider economy.
